NATIONAL ENERGY TRANSMISSION COMPANY
Sociedade Nacional de Transporte de Energia (STE) is a Public Limited Company wholly owned by EDM, established to design, build and operate the infrastructure of the Tete – Maputo Power Transmission Line Project, known as Backbone “Espinha Dorsal”, under a concession contract signed between STE and the Government of Mozambique. The Temane – Maputo line represents phase 1 of the Backbone project, and is associated with the construction of the Temane Thermal Power Plant (CTT) with an installed capacity of 450 MW in Temane, Inhassoro district.
With its sphere of action and influence in Mozambique and in the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP), STE will develop an extremely important national infrastructure, which will leverage the industrial, economic and social development of the country and the region.
OBJECTIVes
- Building about 1400 km of high voltage lines at 400 kV
- Operate the infrastructures that will interconnect the Northern, Central and Southern electricity sub-systems, associated with the development of energy production projects in the Zambezi Valley, such as the Mphanda Nkuwa Hydroelectric Power Station (1,500 MW), the Cahora Bassa North (1,250MW), Boroma (200 MW) and Lupata (600MW), among others.
- Catalysing Mozambique's potential to produce and export abundant clean energy, providing additional capacity to transport energy from generation plants to interconnections with SAPP countries, and thereby strengthening Mozambique's aspirations to be a regional energy hub.
