Resettlement Implementation Action Plan
Despite the optimisation of the line’s route in order to minimise its environmental and social impacts, the line’s route, which crosses 13 districts and 63 communities, affected more than 3,000 families, including houses (a total of 225), agricultural fields, economic activities, sacred places and places of worship, among others, which were subject to a resettlement programme prepared in accordance with national legislation and with the environmental and social safeguards of the World Bank, the main funder of the Project, and other international good practices on resettlement.
STE, with the advice of the Consultant and collaboration with provincial and district governments and community leaders, implemented the compensation processes which culminated in all project-affected people joining in the release of the line easement prior to the commencement of construction.
Alongside the resettlement programme, stakeholder and project-affected stakeholder engagement programmes were developed, where updated information on the project was shared, and programmes to prevent and monitor incidents related to gender-based violence, sexual harassment, exploitation and sexual abuse, in order to ensure harmonious coexistence with the affected communities.
