Sociedade Nacional de Transporte de Energia, S.A. (STE), a company created and 100% owned by Electricidade de Moçambique, E.P. (EDM) under the National Energy Strategy, for the development of the Backbone Project, through the construction of about 1400 km of electricity transmission line, from Tete to Maputo, crossing the provinces of Sofala, Inhambane and Gaza, publicly launched its corporate identity and institutional image on 05 December 2022.
The ceremony consisted of the presentation of the colours, logo, flags and the layout of all the image materials to be produced. It took place in one of the Maputo City’s restaurant resorts and was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy (MIREME), members of the Board of Directors of EDM, the ETS, members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of funding institutions, other partners and the Press.
As explained by Dr. Francisco Inroga, member of the Board of Directors of EDM, speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of EDM, at the moment, “construction work on the 400kV Transmission Line [Temane-Maputo] is underway, so we felt the need to give a visual identity to this imposing Project… we want to safeguard the reputation and good name of this Energy Sector entity, giving it a coherent and differentiated graphic and visual typography, so that the STE Project is easily identified in the spheres of energy business and public opinion.”
He added that, far “beyond just being a logo, with its own colours and features, we hope that STE’s visual identity will aggregate the vision, values and objectives on which this Project is founded.”
As if to conclude, he also pointed out that it is an objective that “the visual and corporate identity of the STE transmits confidence and credibility to the various actors of the Energy Sector, Cooperation Partners such as the World Bank, the Kingdom of Norway, the African Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), which, from the outset, have guaranteed the availability of investment for its implementation.
Background
The National Energy Strategy in Mozambique aims to guarantee universal access to electricity, strengthen Mozambique’s position as a regional electricity generation hub and diversify the national energy matrix to contribute to the country’s industrial and socio-economic development.
The Government approved, in early 2016, the priority allocation of gas from the Pande/Temane fields for the Temane Thermal Power Plant Project (TTP), with a capacity of 450MW. In order to establish the vehicle for the evacuation of power to be produced in Temane, the development of the Temane – Maputo section, called the Temane – Maputo Transmission Line Project (TTP), which constitutes Phase 1 of the Backbone, was prioritised.
Electricidade de Moçambique, E.P. (EDM) created Sociedade Nacional de Transporte de Energia, SA to develop and implement, in a first phase, the 400kV Temane – Maputo (TTP) High Voltage Line project and, in a later phase, the Tete – Maputo line also at 400kV.
The Temane – Maputo Transmission Line Project (TTP) consists of the construction of a 400kV line approximately 560km long between Temane and Maputo and 3 new substations, namely Vilanculos, Chibuto, Matalane and extension of the Maputo substation currently in operation.
Once STE, SA was legally and statutorily established, the next step was to design and produce the corporate identity and image of the new company, Sociedade Nacional de Transporte de Energia.
