The 400kV Temane-Maputo Transmission Line Project is gaining more and more pace and momentum in its implementation, with quite visible and decisive actions and movements. Work on the ground is progressing at a good speed. The towers are already being erected at various points along the line’s route; the construction of the platforms that will house the substations are at an advanced stage, while the approximately 270 resettlement houses for the affected families are being finalised and delivered to the beneficiaries.
In early February, the main equipment for installing the three new substations under construction arrived in Mozambique, namely in Vilankulo, Chibuto and Matalane, as part of the Project to Construct the 400 kV Temane-Maputo Transmission Line, known as TTP.
A visit to the Port of Maputo, on 6 February, made it possible to witness the unloading process of part of this material. It is a question of 38 power transformers, with varied capacity, of which the largest were six, with 400 MVA each, which will be installed in the Chibuto substation, in Gaza province. Besides this equipment, reactors and other accessory material for the project also arrived in the country.
According to the TTP Project Director, Eng. Adriano Jonas, the arrival of this equipment is a “very important milestone, because it will bring a new dynamic to the works in progress on the ground.”
Work to implement the TTP project began in the first half of 2021, and on 28 March 2022, the Head of State, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, laid the first stone in Temane, in Inhambane Province, and completion is scheduled for the end of 2023.
The project, as well as the Temane-Maputo line, provides for the construction of three new substations, namely Vilanculos, in Inhambane, Chibuto, in Gaza, and Matalane, in Maputo. Also included in the same project is the extension of the Beluluane substation, also in Maputo province.
“Everything is being done so that the project is completed this year,” the Project Director assured.
The TTP Project represents the first phase of the development of the “Backbone” Project of the High Voltage power transmission system from Tete to Maputo.
